This interview with Irish actress Fiona Shaw is pretty long, but it's one of the most delightful conversations about art, literature, language, and acting I've heard in a long, long time.
Some highlights:
- some of the best readings of Shakespeare I've ever heard, which really drives home how important proper instruction is in learning how to read Shakespeare (see above)
- the distance between Shakespeare, Brecht, Ibsen, and Beckett
- a superb reading of T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land" that put the poem in a new light for me
- a conversation about the intense psychic tragedy of Medea and other Greek classics
- and much more
Definitely check it out if you have some time.
